Piston Groove Restoration

Piston groove are often worn out due to working conditions where combustion occurs in the engine, the pressure distribution affects the force acting on the ring that causes the ring grooves and groove sides to wear. This results in sealing problems and can cost efficiency of engine to be reduces.

Laser Cladding allows rebuilding of piston groove back to original clearance with cobalt based alloy. This material can fusion bond with the piston grooves and provide more durability due to high wear resistance properties.

Original material: Cast Steel

Results: Improved durability up to 30% (subjected to crew engine handling and maintenance)

Turbocharger Shaft Restoration

Due to it’s high rpm, turbocharger shaft journal and sealing grooves are often worn out. All these clearances are very important to ensure the efficiency of your turbocharger. Running at such high speed requires clearances to be very tight, any errors may be catastrophic to your turbocharger.

Laser Cladding due to it’s low heat input but still able to provide an excellent fusion bonding makes it the perfect technology for repairing parts like this without causing any distortion or affecting the straightness of the shaft.

Split Pump Housing Restoration

Due to the age of this pump housing (40 years old) and at the same time running in harsh condition, pump housing was badly corroded. Furthermore, the pump housing was out of production. Using laser cladding technology, LCS is able to restore the pump casing back to its original specifications.

Coupling ID Restoration

Coupling ID was corroded and scored due to operation. Laser Cladding with low heat distortion capability can restore parts like this without causing a deformation to the part. Operations like these are simple and easy for laser cladding to work on.

APPLICATION #6:

Crane Swivel Shaft Restoration

Parts that require strong bonding strength is perfect for laser cladding  due to the fusion bonding nature. The thread was damaged and nut was unable to screw in. The screw was machined completely off in LCS premises and laser cladding back to original size. Thread was then tested to withstand a tensile load of 80T and proven to be successful. Currently the thread is being used onboard the vessel and operating as per normal usage.
